Wu Pottery

biography

Doreen Spears nee Goh (Wu) qualified as an architect from Sheffield University and worked 11 years in the industry afterwhich in 2000 she retired to take up pottery.

Her work uses various clays ranging from delicate porcelain animals to structural crank garden pieces and a dark earthenware for handbuilt artwork. Her interest also encompass raku and thrown lidded jars.

Her influences come from nature,both flora and fauna and her travels particularly to Cambodia, Finland, Crete and the Far East.

Doreen currently produces her range called 'Lotus'. This new glaze is being applied to lidded forms producing classical pieces with a hint of antiquity. She also throws the Lotus Leaf form in stoneware and porcelain.
